Charlotte got her Mimiwoo order in the mail today, and so I have pictures of her new shoes, and also some pictures of some dolly shenanigans, courtesy of Glenn! ;) ( Behind the cut! )

The other day I was in Target looking for blonde colored bobby pins so I could do a nicer job styling Charlotte's wig, and was very surprised to see mini bobby pins! They're probably about half the size of a standard bobby pin, so still a tad big for 1/3 scale, but better than using full-size pins. And, they seem to be a new trend, because I've now seen them in Target, Wal-Mart, and last night in CVS (where they had a "new item!" sign), and I've seen them in medium and dark brown (but sadly, no blonde yet). I definitely bought some, because a while back, I had bought "doll bobby pins" online, and they were a similar size, but poor quality, because I found they leave a bit of a mark. It's not noticeable on doll hair of a similar color, but I noticed it on the index card I had stuck them on for storage, which had little brown lines left where I pulled the bobby pin back off. Now I'll just throw those out and use these nicer quality ones! :)
In other news, I've got a couple of things in the mail for Charlotte. First, two fabrics which are lovely and perfect, and I can't wait to use! And second, the brown wig I bought, which I think with a little work could make a very Keira-Knightly-as-Georgiana "Hedgehog!" I'm going to try and mess around with a bit this weekend. . . However, I think I will be needing a wig cap, as even though this is a size 8-9 wig, it's too big, and just slips all over the place on poor Charlotte's head!

Yay! This morning, I got up with the birds practically, and put the finishing touches on Charlotte's first dress, and trimmed her flat cap. Then, it was off to the back yard for her first official photo shoot! I have some learning to do about photography, but all together not bad for my first attempt! And as for the outfit? I'm very happy with it! :)
( This way for the pictures! )

Yay! Now that they've reached their destination, I can reveal what my mini embroidery project was. . . ( Behind the cut. . . )

I was so hoping I would be able to finish an outfit for Charlotte over the weekend in time to take pictures on Sunday afternoon, but I didn't quite make it. She does, however, have a totally finished petticoat and a dress that lacks only sleeves and lining! I'm going to wait on sharing pictures until it's done.
Also, I discovered while those 18c shoes I bought are adorable, they're really only good when she is sitting down - she can't stand in them! So I went digging through my random doll stuff box, and found a pair of pink "ballet" slippers I got at AC Moore for my AG crew, but they turned out to be way too narrow for the AG feet. I tried them on Charlotte, and they're a tiny bit too wide, but they will do for now! And, I guess I "have" to go BJD shoe shopping. ;)
I was naughty and bought two fabrics online for future Charlotte dresses. I have a whole room full of fabrics, I in no way need more! But, I found one that would be perfect, and then the seller had another one that was nice. . . Well, you know how it goes!
Also, I think I may have to take up woodworking, because of this whole BJD thing. I searched all over online for suitable furniture, etc., with which to create the BJD display area of my dreams and turned up next to nothing. The few things that would even be remotely close to suitable were ridiculously expensive, and would require some work on top of that in order to make them perfect. So, I guess I'll have to learn woodworking! ;P

This wretched work week's reign of tyranny is almost at an end! And thank the powers that be for that! In 43 (long, painful, torturous) minutes, I am out of here and headed for the train, which will convey me home (while I distract myself with trying to beat Glenn's high score on Galaga) to where (if all goes according to plan) a doll body will await. Exciting!!!!! So hopefully I'll be making my first bits of clothing for her tonight, and throughout the weekend! But, I also need to get some cleaning done, and make some curtains for Glenn, so he doesn't think I love my new little resin person more than him! :O So I guess my biggest dilemma right now is deciding which of the forty-thousand (give or take) ideas in my head I should begin with, LOL!
Right. Off to try to concentrate a little longer on work. . . Hopefully, I'll be posting again this evening - and not just a creepy detached head this time! ;P
In other news, I have been cracking myself up imagining attaching my doll head. . . You know National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation? The part where Chevy Chase, having spent hours and hours trying to get his Christmas lights working, flips out and kicks things and then makes one final attempt to join the plugs together - and - voila! Lights!!! Well, I picture the same thing but me with a doll head and doll body instead of extension cords, ha ha ha ha ha!!!!! (You totally have to have seen the movie and know it well enough to get the humor of this - too bad I don't have a screen cap/you tube clip or something!)
Right. Seriously. I need to try and focus for a little longer. . .
*wiggles in seat excitedly*
PS Don't worry, I'll make a new LJ icon, since I know the floating head icon has been found by some of my readers to be a bit disturbing, LOL! ;P

Glenn is made of awesome, because he volunteered that if I am willing to take the train home, he will leave early enough from work to make the post office tomorrow! So I can have her a whole day early! Yay! :)
Right. I have to try to make myself clean my sewing room now, to get ready for the flurry of sewing activity I anticipate, starting tomorrow! ;)

Okay, this day is seriously dragging! Gee, I wonder why? ;) And, I imagine tomorrow will be at least a thousand times worse. *sigh*
Meanwhile, the number of crafty ideas (and not just sewing, either!) floating around my head is completely out of control, which is awesome - I can't remember the last time I felt so inspired! And to think, I don't even actually have her yet, LOL!
The down side is that I'll probably never sew another costume for myself again. LOL! ;P

Yay! There was a slip in my box which says the doll body is at my post office! :) Of course, I still have to wait until Saturday to get it! Well, I suppose I could sign the slip and let them deliver it, but I'm nervous that if I do that, it will get swiped. So I'll make myself wait. SO painful though!!!

Right, sometime this afternoon, it was updated to say that as of something like 6:42 this morning, she is already only one town away. So apparently, it takes a while for a status to update. So for all I know, she may have been delivered today! Or, a pink slip may have been delivered saying I can pick her up at the post office - which would suck because I'd have to wait until Saturday thanks to post office hours. I think it is more likely to be the latter. In that scenario, I'll have to call and find out the exact hours of the post office and see if it's possible to slightly adjust my work hours so I can just make it before or after work. Or, I could just be patient, and pick her up on Saturday! And maybe even finish the curtains I promised Glenn like a year ago. Bad Jenni!
As a side note: Has it gone too far when you are referring to your BJD as your "little resin person," instead of your "doll?" Because I definitely just did that in an email to Glenn. . . ;P

OMG! She is already out of customs, and not just that, she is only two towns away, at the post office's sorting facility! OMG! I'm going to have a doll any day now!
Also, I snapped a couple of pictures of the inside of my doll head. . . So, what do you think? Do I need the plastic donut thing, or is this enough of an "x" to do without?

Well, I didn't think I was going to get a tracking #, so imagine my surprise when I got an email with a tracking # today! This will make the wait less painful and more fun, because I can check in on her progress now and then. :) I just checked it for the first time, and she was shipped out from China on 5/31, and arrived in New York on 6/1, and is "inbound to customs." Yay! She's so close! *squeals with excitement* Oh, I do hope customs doesn't take long! I would so love to have her by Saturday, because I have the whole day free and could have such a ball making things for her! *crosses all possible fingers!!!*

I'm looking for help with this whole head-attaching thing. . . Because I couldn't find an answer on DoA, and I'm worried that what I think makes sense will be totally wrong!
The body I've chosen has the "s" shaped hook peaking out of the neck. The head I have has a decent hole at the neck, and absolutely nothing in side it, except that the top of the skull (the bit that can be removed to get at the inside of the head) has a built-in "loop," so to speak. Does that make sense? I hope so. Anyhow. To me, the logical thing would seem to be to take the "s" hook from the body, and hook it on to that resin loop, which would attach the body to that removable piece, thus holding the removable piece on to the head, and the head on to the body. But, it seems too easy! So, am I right, or if not, what am I missing?

Months ago, I fell in love with this wig on eBay that I thought could make a good 18c-ish wig, but it went for a fortune. The other day, I was looking at pages and pages of wigs and found one I thought was similar. I searched on eBay, and got one for $6.99! Not bad!

I just woke up from a dream (nightmare?) that my body arrived, and I was all excited, and put the head on no trouble, and everything was great - until I realized they sent me a MSD sized body instead! Bwah-ha-ha, I am such a dork! That I am totally waking up from dreams (and therefore, have probably been having dreams all night) about this doll now is proof of how out of control this obsession has become. ;P

I sent a note to the seller to make sure they had all the info they needed, and sure enough, they said they was just looking for my phone # to put on the packing slip. So that means she definitely didn't take the full 7 business days to be shipped, and that means she should be here by a week from Saturday, according to the shipping estimate! I'm pretty sure I have enough little sewing projects going on to help me stay distracted until then. ;)
Also, have I mentioned lately my fear that I won't be able to figure out how to put the head on? And my secondary fear that I'll break her string in the process? I'm so freaked out that I went ahead and ordered extra elastic/string just in case. And one of those plastic washer thingies in case her neckhole is too wide. I don't even know if this is a possible issue with my particular mold(s), but I definitely didn't want to risk having the body show up, finding out then, and having to wait even longer to assemble her! So, be forewarned that there will probably be an anxious "OMG I can't put her together!!!" post here in the future. . . ;P

I'm so excited because I got a "welcome home" present for my new doll in the mail from the lovely bauhausfrau, and I knew it was going to be a pair of eyes, but was so excited to see two pairs of eyes, in colors I love, plus an adorable little 18c necklace/neck ruffle thing! In pink! My girl can't wait to try it on, but she needs a neck first, LOL! ;)
Speaking of. . . I was secretly hoping that the body got mailed right away, since there was no faceup needed, and that maybe I could be lucky enough that she could arrive tomorrow, so I could play with her over the weekend. . . But I had an email notification from eBay that the seller requested my information, and I'm betting they were doing it to get a phone # to put on the packing slip - because what else could they need contact info for that wasn't already sent with my Paypal payment? So I'm betting she's just getting mailed today, and that I'll probably have to wait all the way until next weekend to get her, which is like fifty seven years away (or feels like it, anyhow, LOL)!
Anyhow. I've been hard at work since last weekend on a super secret doll project. In fact, Sydney and I took advantage of the beautiful weather on Monday, and went to a park not far from my house (the one where we had our Regency picnic last year, actually) and just sat and sewed. It was lovely! And I've been doing a bit here and there throughout the week, and am finally reaching a point where I can sit back and admire some of my results, and yay! It's turning out just how I hoped! I can't wait to share it with you. . .
In other news, I think I've picked a name for her! I want to wait until she is all put together and maybe dressed too, so I can be sure I've found the right name. But I'm pretty sure I've settled on it, because I find myself thinking of her by name already. . . Exciting!
